DEAD POOL HIT: George Carlin, Cultural Icon.

Finally...six updates in two days, and six consecutive solo hits. WOW!! I can't remember the last time we've had this happen here. And for me to say the last hit to report upon is just another comedian would be doing a great disservice. Methinks the news source does a far better job than I can ever do:
Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television.
Some People Are Stupid.
Stuff.
People I Can Do Without.
George Carlin, who died of heart failure Sunday at 71, leaves behind not only a series of memorable routines, but a legal legacy: His most celebrated monologue, a frantic, informed riff on those infamous seven words, led to a Supreme Court decision on broadcasting offensive language.
The counterculture hero's jokes also targeted things such as misplaced shame, religious hypocrisy and linguistic quirks — why, he once asked, do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

DEAD POOL HIT: Cyd Charisse, Actress And Dancer.

Aww, hell...I'm running out of things to say with lead-ins to reporting the next celebrity to score points, so here's the news source and an excerpt:
Cyd Charisse, the long-legged beauty who danced with the Ballet Russe as a teenager and starred in MGM musicals with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, died Tuesday. She was 86.
Charisse was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack, said her publicist, Gene Schwam. She appeared in dramatic films, but her fame came from the Technicolor musicals of the 1940s and 1950s.

DEAD POOL HIT: Yves Saint Laurent, Fashion Designer.

Time once again to catch up on recent deaths and scoring. It is worth noting this death also occurred on the same day that Bo Diddly died, so in a way we had a 'double play' at the beginning of June:
Yves Saint Laurent, considered by many as the greatest fashion designer of the 20th Century, has died in Paris at the age of 71.
Saint Laurent changed the face of the fashion industry when he became chief designer of the House of Dior at 21.
He designed clothes that reflected women's changing role in society: more confident personally, sexually and in the work-place.

DEAD POOL HIT: Bo Diddley, Musician.

Oh, what the hell...let's do one more scoring update before I call it a night. The final scoring update for tonight involves someone who did not know 'diddley' about how to stay alive.:
Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.
Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Florida, spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.
The legendary singer and performer, known for his homemade square guitar, dark glasses and black hat, was an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and received a lifetime achievement award in 1999 at the Grammy Awards. In recent years he also played for the elder President Bush and President Clinton.

DEAD POOL HIT: Sydney Pollack, Director And Actor.

Sweet Jeebus H. Christ on a pogo stick!! How did I ever miss this one for my own dead pool lists? Relatively young, diagnosed with cancer last fall---almost a sure bet that cashed in back towards the end of May:
Sydney Pollack, the Academy Award-winning director who collaborated with a long list of elite actors on films such as "Out of Africa," "Tootsie," "The Way We Were" and "Absence of Malice," died Monday. He was 73.
Pollack was diagnosed with cancer about nine months ago and died Monday afternoon, surrounded by family, at his home in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, his publicist, Leslee Dart, said.
Unlike many other top directors of his era, Pollack was also a film and television actor himself, and he used this unique position to forge a relationship with Hollywood's elite stars and create some of the most successful films of the 1970s and '80s.

DEAD POOL HIT: Dick Martin, Comedian.

First up to bat in the Dead Pool Hit Parade dates back to late May and was an old comedy favorite from a by-gone era::
Dick Martin, the zany half of the comedy team whose "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" took television by storm in the 1960s, making stars of Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin and creating such national catch-phrases as "Sock it to me!" has died. He was 86.
Martin, who went on to become one of television's busiest directors after splitting with Dan Rowan in the late 1970s, died Saturday night of respiratory complications at a hospital in Santa Monica, family spokesman Barry Greenberg said.
Then there is this quote that is a real gem:
"He had had some pretty severe respiratory problems for many years, and he had pretty much stopped breathing a week ago," Greenberg said.Isn't that usually a sure sign that someone is dead? Obviouis Statement is obvious.

Obviously, there's been a boatload of points to be handed out during my absence. Call it burn-out if you will, but I needed some time away from this on-line stuff, and that's saying nothing about the drama-bomb that dropped at work a month ago and put me in something of a depressed mood, and it's not over yet.
Anywho, I'm going to start getting the scoring up-to-date over the next couple of days. Gonna start with one posting tonight---maybe two---then go from there, so look for lots of postings here to come your way.

Couple of changes to the rules.
I'm getting rid of the "5 celebs must be under 70 rule". There are already age penalties in place scoring wise so we don't need any more.
Doesn't have to be a UK obit, but if it's a local none-uk obit it must be backed up by another source.
The any one pick remains, but the group must contain no less than three eligable people and no more than 45.
All other details remain the same.

DEAD POOL HIT: Albert Hofmann, Travel Agent.

Oh, wow, man! It's like, we have another hit, man. Hit? Hit??!! Oh, wow! I made a funny joke, dudes! It's like I couldn't believe it when I like heard the news, man. I mean, I sez to myself 'wow, man, he's dead. I mean he's really, really dead, dude!! Can you believe that, dudes:
Albert Hofmann, who died on Tuesday aged 102, synthesised lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in 1938 and became the first person in the world to experience a full-blown "acid trip" – that was on April 19 1943, which became known among aficionados as "Bicycle Day" as it was while cycling home from his laboratory that he experienced the most intense symptoms.
Hofmann was working as a research chemist at the laboratory of the Sandoz company in Basel, Switzerland, where he was involved in studying the medicinal properties of plants. This eventually led to the study of the alkaloid compounds of ergot, a fungus which forms on rye.
